This manual provides emission diagnostic information applicable to  open and closed loop carbureted, throttle body injection (TBI), multiport fuel injection (MFI), and the major emission control systems found on General Motors Vehicles. The procedures outlined in the manual, as well as the procedures, referenced in the applicable vehicle service manuals, apply to both the Basic and Enhanced Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) programs. An understanding of the material presented in this manual, along with the diagnostic and repair procedures presented in the applicable vehicle service manuals, and the appropriate Dealer Technical Service Bulletins, will assist service technicians with diagnosing and servicing vehicles with excessive tailpipe and EVAP system emissions.
