The SPX Corporation has produced a line of OTC diagnostic scanners that have proven to be one of the most trusted names in the automotive industry. OTC has a variety of tools from basic code readers to complex diagnostic machines like the Pegisys OTC3825J. With so many different options under the same brand, we thought we would take some time and offer some more information on the different tools.

OTC has given customers an array of basic code readers beginning with the OTC3108 OBD II Reader. This basic reader will connect to 1996 and newer OBD II compliant vehicles and displays the active fault codes on the screen. This tool will allow you to erase the trouble codes and turn off any check engine light that appears. If you are looking for a tool that is a little more advanced, you can look at the OTC3111 which is the CodeConnet OBD II and CAN reader. This option is still inexpensive yet allows you to view live data, read inactive and active codes, and work on ABS fault codes. If you are looking to work on light duty and diesel trucks, you may want to look at the OTC3499N which adds the diesel capability along with freeze frames and O2 monitoring. These fairly inexpensive options give most everyday people the ability to perform all the diagnostics that they would normally have to pay to have a dealership or mechanic do for them.

If you are a person with multiple vehicles or possibly a small shop, then you may want to look into the OTC Genisys. The OTC3871 is a scanner that allows you to diagnose all cars from domestic, Asian, European and heavy duty trucks. The Genisys has optional accessories including OBD I cables that allow you to diagnose vehicles prior to 1996. The unit runs mainly off of the OTC Smart Card and can be expanded to include new coverage at anytime. The handheld unit is updateable via the internet and includes global coverage.

Certain people focus more on import vehicles rather than domestic and OTC responded by releasing the OTC 3825J Pegisys and the OTC-3100DLX AutoBoss which are geared towards imported vehicles. These scanners offer brilliant color screens and have the most comprehensive coverage for Asian and European vehicles out there. Almost all OTC products come with at least a one year warranty and SPX Corporation has set up technical support for all of their products and the consumers who purchase them.
