Description:

This two-volume set, consisting of a theory-based Classroom Manual and corresponding Shop Manual, provides users with a complete introduction to automotive engine repair and rebuilding. The theory, diagnosis and repair of engine operating systems, intake and exhaust systems, cylinder heads, camshafts, valve trains, cylinder blocks, and today's high-performance engines are covered in detail throughout. In response to industry trends, this edition features greater emphasis on overhead cam (OHC) and dual overhead cam (DOHC) systems, including replacing timing belts on DOHC engines and servicing engines with variable camshaft timing and lift. Discussion of the theory of engine operation has also been expanded to include alternate power systems, such as hybrid vehicles, fuel cells, and the latest electronic ignition (IE) systems. In addition, Job Sheets have been added at the end of each chapter in the Shop Manual to provide opportunities for hands-on practice of must-know procedures.

Benefits:

• Step-by-step photo sequences with high-quality, current illustrations enable readers to visualize repair procedures before they enter the shop.
• The Classroom Manual has been updated and expanded to include current topics, such as: coil-on-spark-plug systems, reverse flow cooling systems, message centers, and intake systems for fuel-injected engines.
• The Shop Manual now provides opportunities to gain valuable experience in balance shaft and balance shaft bearing diagnosis, thread repair, and gasket, seal, and sealant service.
• Definitions of technical terms and common trade jargon, tool lists, and helpful cross-references are included in the margins, guiding users to rapid mastery of new knowledge and skills.
• An ASE-style practice exam is included in the Shop Manual, allowing users to simulate the ASE Certification Exam experience as part of their test preparation.
• A comprehensive Spanish/English glossary aids in mastery of must-know terms, instilling confidence as users gain the technical and critical thinking skills needed for a successful career as a professional automotive technician.
• An e.resource™ containing ready-to-use PowerPoint slides, a computerized testbank, and other helpful resources is available to minimize preparation time for instructors.
